Pills, does this sound like a plan?

So my boyfriend and I are going to go to Planned Parenthood so I can get birth control pills. We have always used Spermicidal Condoms during sex but I want to be even safer. I called and they said for high school students, normally the pill is $6 per pack. I have my own money, but I can't let my mom know I'm taking birth control because she is very strict. I just want to be safe, that's all. Does this sound like a good idea or does anyone find this plan a bad idea and why? I just would like a second opinion, please :)
